OHV Engine Casting Numbers

Do not take this information as gospel.  This is a collection of engine casting numbers from tractors at various shows.  I am attempting to establish a method for determining engine size and sleeve vs non-sleeve by casting number.

Roger Clark provided the following additional information (If my notes are correct) :

  • Casting Numbers beginning with "EAE" are 134 CID

  • Casting Numbers beginning with "EAF" are 172 CID

  • Casting Numbers beginning with EAE and EAF are 1955-1957

  • Casting Numbers beginning with  B9NN are 1958-1959

  • Casting Numbers beginning with CONN are 1960-1964

  • B9NN6015A is definitely a 144 CID  Block with Sleeves

  • B9NN6015B is definitely a 172 Block with Sleeves

  • CONN6015H is definitely a 144 CID Sleeveless Block

  • CONN6015J is definitely a 172 CID Sleeveless Block

  • 310609 id definitely a 172 CID Block

I  have come to the conclusion that a 172 block can be either gas or Diesel, 134 is gas only, and that 144 is Diesel only.

Carl Davis provided the following information:

  • Casting Numbers beginning with "EAE" are 1953-1957

  • Casting Numbers beginning with "EAF" are 1955-1957

  • Casting Numbers beginning with "B" are 50's (ie. "B9" is 1959)

  • Casting Numbers beginning with "CO" are decade of 60's

  • "NN" in casting number means tractor Division.

  • "6" means section of parts book.

My conclusions: (Under Development)

  • Casting Numbers beginning with "EAE:
    - 1953-1957
    - 134 CID block with Sleeves and Canister oil filter
    - Suspect the letter  after 6015 is the year made D=53. F=54, H=55, J=56 and 57

  • Casting Numbers beginning with "EAF:
    - 1955-1957
    - 172 CID block with Sleeves and Canister oil filter
    - Suspect the letter  after 6015 is the year made H=55, J=56 and 57

  • Casting Numbers beginning with "B" are Decade of the 50's
    - Second digit may be the year.
    - NN is tractor Division
    - 6015 is part number (6 is section of parts book)
    - Last letter "A" is a 144 CID block with Sleeves and Canister oil filter
    - Last letter "B" is a 172 CID block with Sleeves and Canister oil filter
    - Leaves the question what letter is the 134 Block

  • 310609 is a 172 CID block with Sleeves and Canister oil filter (Year Unknown)

  • 310905 is a 134 CID block with Sleeves and Canister oil filter (Year Unknown)

  • Casting Numbers beginning with "C" are Decade of the 60's
    - Second digit may be the year.
    - NN is tractor Division
    - 6015 is part number (6 is section of parts book)
    - Last letter "C" 172 CID block with Sleeves and Canister oil filter
    - Last letter "G" 134 CID sleeveless Block with Spin-on Fliter
    - Last letter "H" (Not Sure)
    - Last letter "J" 172 CID sleeveless Block with Spin-on Fliter
